3" Brake Ducts for Toyota MR2 Turbo

I created 3" brake ducts for my 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo. The brake ducts go from the front bumper (where the fog lights used to be) to the back of the fender liner. I used 3" vinyl dryer duct and aluminum dryer vents to attach the duct work to the body of the car.

Parts Needed:
(1) 3" Vinyl Dryer Duct (5 feet)
(4) 3" Aluminum Dryer Vents
(1) 2'x4' Aluminum Sheet
(8) Large Zip Ties

Tools needed:
Tin snips
Dremal
Pop rivit gun
Silicone adhesive
Black spray paint
Screwdriver

Steps:

  1. Cut out the Dryer Vent using tin snips (curved tins snips help a lot).

  2. Cut aluminum sheet into four 6"x10" peices to make a plate for use with the vent to mount the duct work.

  3. Trace the vent onto one of the plates.

  4. Draw in 4 tabs on the plate.

  5. Cut out the area for the vent to go.

  6. Place vent in plate.

  7. Drill hole in tab for pop rivet

  8. Pop Rivit the tabs of the plate to the vent.

  9. Repeat steps 3-8 three more times.

  10. Jack front of car.

  11. Remove front wheels.

  12. Remove plastic under body panels.

  13. Loosen/remove the front fender well liners.

  14. Determine where the plate will go.

  15. Trim and bend plate as needed.

  16. Test fit.

  17. Apply lots of Silicone and Pop Rivit plate into place.

  18. Dremal hole in bumper/fender well liner.

  19. Repeat steps 14-18 for the other 3 locations.

  20. Cut dryer duct to proper lengths (about 2').

  21. Spray paint inside and outside of dryer duct.

  22. Attach duct to the plate attached to the bumper.

  23. Zip-Tie dryer duct to vent.

  24. Repeat steps 22-23 for other 3 locations.

  25. Spray paint the visible parts of the duct work.

  26. Step back and admire your handy work.
